2019 Fashion & Fizz

Fashion & Fizz

Join us for a night of fashion, fun and beauty at our Club Sponsor, Signature Wines on Friday 23 August.

Located on King Street in Norwood, the cellar door will be transformed from a warehouse into an area which will allow you to escape the hustle and bustle of day to day life.

Be ‘tszujed’ at the complimentary beauty bar, be inspired by models from our Senior Women’s Teams (PL, M1,2,5 and Masters) parading fashions and with Champagne and Wines for sale by the glass or bottle and a grazing table with something for everyone, it is an event not to be missed.

This event is for players, past and present, mum’s, wives, partners and friends. Get your group of friends together and enjoy a night of pampering, fashion, beauty and bubbles.

A Bulldog Legend

BACK ROW Ian Bowley (Manager), Andrew Barker, Peter Cooper, Marc d’Unienville, Anothny Haynes, Michael Berce (Doctor), Jim Jones, John Rodda, Andrew Cawrse, Robert Hilditch (Captain A1 Reserves).

FRONT ROW John Haynes, Ashley Kelly, Adrian Berce (Captain), Warren Murphy (President), Barry Cibich (Caoch), Winton Inkster, Julian Coghlin

It is with a deep sense of sadness that I advise the Bulldog family of the passing of one of our own, Peter Cooper. Peter played A Grade (that’s the old version of Premier League ) for Burnside for some years back in the 1970S and 1980s. I recall many a fine Saturday afternoon being one of 100 plus spectators crowded around the old BHC top ground on East Tce, Kensington Gardens to watch Peter and his mates, including Brenton Martin, Jimmy Jones, Robert Hilditch and the Berce brothers, Michael and Adrian, along with Ian Bowley and an older guy known as Boonz aka bulldogs legend, Winton Inkster, as they took on arch enemies like Brighton or Sturt (now Adelaide HC) in games that could only be described as exciting and vigorous. Peter was a skillful and elegant player with flair. I remember too the class of the man on the day that his jaw was broken. Peter was always the gentleman but he played hard and tough skillful hockey in the true spirit of the Bulldog.
I extend our deepest condolences to Peter’s family, on behalf of all Bulldogs, those who were fortunate enough to know or meet Peter and those who haven’t.

Peter was a key member of the 1988 Premiership team – the Club’s first Mens top grade premiership since its win in 1936 (as Kenwood).
Before the Grand final was played, Winton Inkster was reported in The Advertiser as saying “with the return of John Rodda and Peter Cooper to Club this year, we have developed a team of 13 players who give the side great flexibility. I feel confident about the final.”

Peter’s playing record is:
A1 1974-84, 1988
SA Juniors 1973
SA U21 1974
SA Seniors 1983-4 seen here below playing for SA with Terry Smith

AHL Support letter to members and supporters

21 March 2019
Dear Burnside Hockey Club Supporters
As many of you may have heard and seen in today’s media, Hockey SA National Shame, HockeySA has advised all clubs that due to the late withdrawal of the NT from the proposed combined SA and NT AHL entry, mens and womens teams, SA now has to raise $100,000 immediately to be able to nominate SA mens and womens teams in the AHL.
We are making approaches to possible major sponsors but the time is short and the outcome is uncertain. So in the interests of hockey in SA, I am calling on our hockey supporters for support and I ask if you or people or organisations you know will contribute as a sponsor or donor to ensure South Australia doesn’t fall out of the AHL.
This is not about supporting just the current elite players in SA but its every bit as much about securing the future of hockey in SA, for your children and theirs in years to come.
Hockey SA has put development programs in place in recent years which many BHC juniors have been involved in. It’s imperative that all our juniors who aspire to play at the highest level can identify with senior state men and women, and aspire to one day represent the state at the highest level.
Please help us to ensure our state and our players continue to have this opportunity. If you can help through a business sponsorship or a personal donation, please contact me at president@burnsidehockeyclub.com.au to discuss. Or for any donations no matter the size, please visit the site gofundme.
